Citrix Virtualization for Higher Education State Organization in Southern California

The Challenge 

The customer maintained several student computing labs across campus composed of about 1200 computers, and over 100 applications. This is to support about 7,000 students.

Because of the number of computers and applications, performing a hardware refresh, and the ensuing ongoing maintenance required a lot of planning and time.

The goal was to find an easier way to maintain the applications on the computers and also provide the applications to students remotely in order to lessen the demand of the student labs.

The Solution 

GTC Systems recommended a combination of Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp. In addition, Citrix NetScalers were used.

The Benefits

The customer deployed a solution that provide the applications to the computer labs via Citrix making maintenance easier. In addition, the customer is rolling out access to the applications to students remotely so that the students will not have to use the labs as much, if at all.
