Our Consulting Methodology
We adhere to a common sense consulting methodology and project planning approach. We understand that the IT Infrastructure is made up of People, Process and Technology:
People
Since GTC’s inception in early 1995 we have focused on attracting and retaining top notch IT professionals to act as an extension of our clients’ IT teams.
Over the years our customers have retained our team to be an extension of their teams because they see tremendous value in utilizing the additional help that our team members can provide for the following reasons:
- Our team members are constantly engaged in projects for commercial, educational, and government organizations and are being exposed to a wide array of technical environments and situations every day. This field experience is very valuable for our customers.
- Our team members are constantly receiving the latest training and certifications from our top tier vendor partners such as Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, VMware, NetApp, HP, IBM, etc. This knowledge is also very valuable to our customers.
- Most of our team members have held IT leadership positions before joining GTC and have been in “the shoes” of our customers which gives our team a deeper appreciation and understanding of the challenges that our customers face on a daily basis.
- Our team members have access to each other so when our customers hire us they are hiring our whole team and have the experiences and resources of our entire team and organization at their disposal and service.
Process
We follow a project delivery methodology based on industry best practices and the extensive experience of our team. Following are the project phases that we follow in all our engagements:
Analysis/Assessment
In this initial phase we propose to conduct a general IT & network infrastructure assessment as the first step of any new project to the extent that our customer wants us to. We strongly believe that before introducing a new information technology solution, impacting most of your organization’s production IT environment, we need to confirm that the network foundation is solid from the desktop to the firewall. Our comprehensive network assessment methodology examines the totality of the IT infrastructure relating to People, Process and Technology in order to deliver a successful solution that exceeds our customer’s expectations.
One of the goals of this initial step is to arrive at a more accurate Bill of Materials for all the hardware and software components needed for any new project. The investment in the network assessment during Phase 1 will more than pay off in ensuring a more successful project. In summary, following are the main goals/tasks of the network review/assessment:
- Review all aspects of the network from the desktop to the firewall
- Document the existing environment using different tools
- Provide recommendations on how to improve the existing environment based on industry Best Practices in cooperation with our customer’s IT team
- Provide a detailed and final Bill of Materials for the new project
Design
The design of the new solution will take the following factors into consideration:
- The proposed solution will leverage existing investments to minimize any expense in new technology acquisitions
- The proposed solution will be within budget
- The proposed solution will meet the business needs of the organization
Implementation - Build/Test
In this phase we build a prototype of the desired solution, do testing and a limited roll-out to a fraction of the production environment
Deployment
In this phase we roll-out the solution to the rest of the production environment
Support - Post Implementation
Relying on extensive documentation throughout the entire solution delivery process, we will provide guidelines on most effective post implementation support
Technology
The analysis/assessment phase above will lead to certain technology recommendations including hardware and software components to leverage existing investments, meet the budget and the business needs of the organization. As an independent IT services firm, our technology recommendations are not biased towards any technology vendor. Instead our main guiding principle is to focus on the client’s best interest.
