EmailE-Mail Security with Spam Filtering

Email filtering is the processing of email to organize it according to specified criteria. Most often this refers to the automatic processing of incoming messages, but the term also applies to the intervention of human intelligence in addition to, and to outgoing emails as well as those being received.

Email filtering software inputs email. For its output, it might pass the message through unchanged for delivery to the user's mailbox, redirect the message for delivery elsewhere, or even throw the message away. Some mail filters are able to edit messages during processing.

Spam represents both an enormous administrative nightmare and a costly productivity drain for virtually every enterprise, and IT organizations are under intense pressure from everyone from the CEO on down to do something about it. But spam is a particularly hard problem to solve.

Determined spammers are continually inventing new techniques to circumvent the latest defenses, making it difficult to define spam, let alone block it. An emerging best-practice for combating spam is to employ a perimeter defense that applies a potent combination of antispam technologies to capture the maximum amount of spam with the minimum amount of false positives.

ROI Considerations
SpamCommon uses and ROI considerations for mail filters include removal of spam and of computer viruses. A less common use is to inspect outgoing email at some companies to ensure that employees comply with appropriate laws. Users might also employ a mail filter to prioritize messages, and to sort them into folders based on subject matter or other criteria. Following are some ROI considerations:

  • Quickly deploy spam protection – set it up on 30 minutes or less

  • Stop up to 99% of spam with a virtually zero false-positive rate*– never lose a business message

  • Capture spam messages hidden in randomized images

  • Significantly reduce IT overhead and administrative costs with a single solution for battling spam

  • Automatically receive spam definition updates, even every hour if you choose

  • Improve employee productivity by preventing spam from reaching their inboxes
